The guide below details the process of setting up access to PPS Hosted on an iPad or iPhone for the first time. Once this initial set-up is done you will be able to quickly access your Hosted system anywhere with an internet connection from the device.
Important: The images for this guide were taken from an iPad. However, the app layout and set-up procedure for an iPhone is essentially identical. You might also see some differences in the screenshots and the video linked to this guide, this is due to different iPad and App versions but the steps and the details being entered are all the same.
Section 1 - Installing the free Microsoft Remote Desktop app
In order to access your PPS Hosted system on our servers, you will need to install the Microsoft Remote Desktop app, or Windows App Mobile since the name change in September 2024. This App requires iPad/iPhone OS 17.0 or later.
This is a free app that you can download from the app store on your device. You will need to ensure that your device is compatible with this app.
You should also check the Online System Requirements to ensure that you will be able to connect to the hosted server from your device.
Section 2 - Login Details
You will receive an email, sent to the email address registered to your account, containing the new login details to allow you to connect to the new server. This email will contain two attachments, one containing your new login details in a text document and the other containing the link to download your pre-configured RDP that can be used to connect on a Windows PC only.
Download the text file from the email and open it to access your usernames and passwords.
Section 3 - Setting up your PPS Hosted Connection
a. Open the app once it has been installed and select the + icon in the corner to begin the set-up. Choose to add a new PC.
b. Select the PC Name field. Here you will enter the server address provided in your PPS Hosted Credentials email. This will have the format of [yourppsreferencenumber].ppshosted.com. Click the Back button once you've entered the server address.
c. Back in the Add PC screen select Credentials. Here you will enter the username. The username will be included in the email you received with your hosted login details. Once done, press Save in the corner of the screen.
Tip: In this screen, you have the option to save your credentials but you will not be able to save passwords for the connections to the server. This has been done for security reasons to keep your data secure. We have set the passwords up as simple to remember 4-word passphrases but you are able to reset the passwords too. Instructions on resetting passwords can be found in this guide.
d. Now, choose No Gateway Configured in the Add PC screen followed by Add Gateway and add the gateway as securegate.ppshosted.com and link to the user account added in the step above and choose Save in the corner.
e. Back in the Add PC screen you should have everything set up so choose to Save the connection.
f. Your connection will now be saved and accessible within the app. Select the icon to connect to PPS.
